Stan Boaler

Stan sadly passed away recently at the age of 98, he was a member of the APBC C team, GexSM Mixed Pairs where he partnered Linda Blundell from our ladies section as well as being a regular short mat bowler through to winter at Grappenhall Community Centre. He was a regular on the away days.

Stan was excellent company blessed with a good sense of humour and always had a twinkle in his eye so the ladies said. Towards the end of WW2 he was a young signalman on a Royal Navy Minesweeper when his sister ship was sunk by a kamikazi plane of the coast of Thailand in the Indian Ocean.

Bowling Greens

Nice to see that the fencing work around one half of both greens has been completed, hopefully this will go some way to keeping dogs/cyclists off the greens. Complete enclosure should be possible when further funding is available.

Secondly, we now have replacement shutters on the small pavilion, this should provide better security and improve the appearance of the building. Who has the keys to open them?.

Comberbach Away Day

The visit on the 19th July was the first occasion that we have held a competition at this venue and it certainly did not disappoint in terms of the condition of the green and the clubhouse facilities. Twenty eight bowlers arrived at 10am for tea/coffee in overcast conditions with rain arriving shortly after the 10.30am start time. Two rounds of pairs bowling were achieved before a slightly late buffet lunch with drinks available from the bar. The weather through the afternoon continued to improve with a further two rounds being achieved on time.
Final results were very tight as shown below:
1st John with 40 points
2nd Graham with 38 points
3rd tied between Ann and Steve on 37 points
Graham managed to win the raffle with some barracking taking place from the hostile crowd!!.
Thanks go again to Jim, Dave and Steve for the organisation and Peter for the buffet.
The next away day is at Owley Wood, Weaverham

Bowling Main + Buffet 19.04.23

On a day that started out cold but ended in bright sunshine 32 bowlers took part in our first major competition of the season. Following the usual four round format of pairs bowling those taking part retired to the pavilion for an enjoyable buffet. Arthur won the raffle and the competition results are shown here.

There was a vote of thanks for Jim for arranging the day.

Thanks to Dave for recording the day’s events.
